The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE)'s Office of Fossil Energy and Carbon Management has selected six projects to receive a combined $9.3 million in federal funding. These projects aim to make clean hydrogen a more accessible and affordable fuel option, focusing on converting various waste materials into energy. This effort supports the Biden-Harris Administration’s goals for substantial decarbonization. Among the innovations are a gasifier feed control system from GTI Energy, a clean hydrogen production system from biomass and waste at Lehigh University, and an AI-powered sensor system by Stevens Institute of Technology to boost gasification performance. These initiatives not only aim to reduce landfill waste but also create economic opportunities in local communities by introducing new waste-to-energy plants.
