Metro Vancouver now has a hydrogen-fueling station powered by renewable energy, thanks to a $23-million hydrogen energy center at UBC. The Smart Hydrogen Energy District (SHED) at the Point Grey campus is the first in the province to integrate hydro, solar, and hydrogen into a unified micro-grid. Energy Minister Josie Osborne called SHED a major leap towards a clean economy, aligning with CleanBC goals. The center will also offer new research and learning opportunities, demonstrating hydrogen's role in Canada’s low-carbon transition. Funded by provincial, federal, and industry partners, SHED can fuel both light to medium-duty and heavy-duty vehicles, aiding the move from fossil fuels to clean energy.
