ECL, a pioneer in Data Center-as-a-Service, has announced the construction of TerraSite-TX1, the world’s first fully sustainable 1GW AI Factory data center, located east of Houston. Scheduled for its initial phase completion in summer 2025, this $450M project will offer 50MW of capacity to AI and cloud operators, including its first tenant, Lambda. What sets TerraSite-TX1 apart is its exclusive use of hydrogen power, with three dedicated pipelines providing the fuel, eliminating the need for traditional fuel transportation and ensuring zero emissions. This off-grid, hydrogen-powered infrastructure addresses the substantial energy needs of AI technologies while significantly reducing the environmental impact. With a total investment of $8B, TerraSite-TX1’s modular design allows for expansion up to 2GW, making it a key player in shaping sustainable energy solutions for the future of AI and data centers. By leveraging hydrogen, ECL is delivering an eco-friendly alternative that not only meets the power demands of AI but also aligns with the industry’s goals of reducing carbon footprints.
