The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) announced a notice of intent for funding to accelerate research, development, demonstration, and deployment of affordable clean-hydrogen technologies. This aims to reduce costs, improve hydrogen infrastructure performance, and ensure efficient, timely, and equitable deployment of clean hydrogen technologies, supporting a net-zero carbon future and a sustainable, resilient economy.
The DOE's Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Technologies Office will administer the funding, focusing on advancing fueling infrastructure for heavy-duty vehicles and other transportation applications, addressing challenges in siting, permitting, and installation, and enhancing community engagement for equitable deployment.
The funding will cover areas like developing advanced components for hydrogen fueling of vehicles, creating standardized, low-cost hydrogen refueling stations, addressing permitting and safety challenges in hydrogen deployment, and engaging communities equitably in hydrogen technology.
Financial assistance will be in the form of cooperative agreements for 2-4 years, encouraging diverse teams from academia, industry, and national laboratories, including representation from minority-serving institutions.
