The Coca-Cola Company is set to trial a hydrogen-fuelled long-haul truck as part of its supply operations in collaboration with Toyota Motor Corporation and Air Liquide. Toyota's heavy-duty truck, powered by green hydrogen from Air Liquide, highlights the importance of developing both vehicles and infrastructure for sustainability. Eric Desbonnets, Vice-President of Paris 2024 Operations at Coca-Cola, stated, “We want to learn from this experience as we continue to work towards reducing our carbon footprint.” Coca-Cola Italia has also introduced hydrogen-powered logistics trucks, aiming to decarbonize road transport by 2040.
Toyota Motor Europe Vice-President R&D, Thiebault Pâquet, emphasized expanding hydrogen technology beyond passenger cars to trucks, trains, boats, and more. He noted that these trials are crucial for achieving zero tailpipe carbon emissions in logistics by 2040. Paquet also mentioned that the 2024 Paris Olympic Games will showcase up to 500 hydrogen-powered vehicles, aiming for 50% less CO2 transport emissions compared to previous Olympics.
