Brussels Airport, in collaboration with Stargate - EU Green Deal partners VIL and DHL, is piloting a hydrogen refueling station and a hydrogen-powered MULAG towing tractor for ground handling operations. This initiative aims to explore hydrogen as a sustainable alternative to conventional fuels and electric equipment, reducing emissions and noise. The project, part of the broader Stargate initiative, includes a mobile hydrogen refueling station and a hydrogen fuel cell system for cargo transport. Comprehensive training ensures safe and efficient operations. Running until June 27th, the pilot will evaluate hydrogen's viability for ground handling and share insights with other airports. Hydrogen vehicles produce no CO2 emissions, operate quietly, and can be refueled instantly, offering significant operational advantages. This pilot is a step towards the broader adoption of hydrogen technology in aviation, promoting a more sustainable future.
