The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE)’s Office of Fossil Energy and Carbon Management (FECM) has announced $8.8 million in funding for 11 university-led research projects aimed at improving hydrogen-fueled turbine performance. These projects focus on developing advanced materials and components that can handle the extreme conditions of hydrogen combustion, enabling the use of up to 100% clean hydrogen in gas turbines. This initiative supports the Biden-Harris Administration’s goals of achieving 100% carbon-free electricity by 2035 and a net-zero emissions economy by 2050. By advancing hydrogen technology, these projects will also help create robust supply chains and good-paying jobs in the power and industrial sectors.
